The palatable once-a-month tablet that prevents heartworm disease, controls adult hookworm,and removes and controls adult roundworm and whipworm infections in dogs and puppies four weeks of age or greater and two pounds body weight or greater. Also for cats and kittens six weeks of age or greater and 1.5 Ibs. body weight or greater, Interceptor is the once-a-month tablet that prevents heartworm disease and removes adult roundworms and hookworms.
Directions:
Milbemycin oxime is FDA approved for use in dogs and cats.
FOR DOGS:
Choose Accordingly: 2 to 10lbs is 2.3mg (BROWN), 11 to 25lbs is 5.75mg (GREEN), 26 to 50lbs is 11.5mg (YELLOW), 51 to 100lbs is 23mg (WHITE) Given once a month year round
FOR CATS:
Choose Accordingly: 1.5 to 6lbs is 5.75mg (GREEN), 6.1 to 12lbs is 11.5mg (YELLOW), 12.1 to 25lbs is 23mg (WHITE) Given once a month year round.
INTERCEPTOR Flavor Tabs are palatable and may be offered as a treat. As an alternative, the dual-purpose tablet may be offered in food or administered as other tablet medications. The tablets can be broken for ease of administration. Watch the pet closely following dosing to be sure the entire dose has been consumed. If it is not entirely consumed, redose once with the full recommended dose as soon as possible.
An alternate treatment is to give this medication once a month during the mosquito season and also one month after the season ends. Consult your veterinarian for the dose of milbemycin oxime when used to treat other parasites.
Cautions:
This medication should not be used in animals allergic to it. The pet should be tested for heartworm disease before starting this medication. If the pet has been off heartworm preventative for 6 months or more, retest in 6 months since microfilaria, that take 6 months to mature, will cause a positive test result. Because humans can contract hookworm and roundworm from animals it is important to maintain good personal hygiene. It is also important to eliminate fleas on the pet and in the household and to not feed the pet rodents or uncooked meat or fish. To prevent reinfection, daily cleanup of stools is recommended.
