Detrol LA is called Unidet in Canada. Chemical Name: TOLTERODINE (tol-TE-roe-deen)

DETROL LA (tolterodine tartrate extended release capsules) treats the symptoms of overactive bladder (leaks, strong sudden urges to go, going too often).

Directions

Take DETROL LA exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Follow patient instructions for safe and effective use. Take this medication with water. Do not crush, chew, break, or open a controlled-release capsule. Swallow it whole. Breaking or opening the pill may cause too much of the drug to be released at one time.

Cautions

To make sure you can safely take DETROL LA, patients should thoroughly discuss their medical history with their doctor. This medication should not be used if you have certain medical conditions. Inform your doctor if you have any of the following conditions:

  • liver disease
  • kidney disease
  • myasthenia gravis
  • glaucoma
  • a personal or family history of Long QT syndrome
Patients should not use DETROL LA if you are allergic to tolterodine or fesoterodine (Toviaz), or if you have:
  • a blockage of the urinary tract (difficulty urinating)
  • a blockage in your stomach or intestines
  • untreated or uncontrolled narrow-angle glaucoma
  • are preganant or planning on becoming pregnant
  • breastfeeding or planning on breastfeeding

Side Effects

Most medications can cause side effects which can be defined as an unwanted response to a medication when it is taken in normal doses. Side effects can range from mild or severe, temporary or permanent. Side effects are not experienced all patients who take this medication. Many side effects can be managed, and others may go away over time.

The most common side effects with DETROL LA are dry mouth, constipation, headache, and stomach pain.

Serious side effects may include chest pain, fast or uneven heart rate; confusion, hallucinations; urinating less than usual or not at all or painful or difficult urination.
